The researchers were also able to demonstrate indirect consequences of Covid 19 disease. Around a third of the patients complained of anxiety, and every fifth affected person complained of depression. The researchers suspect that the accompanying circumstances of the illness could have had an impact here, such as social isolation, post-traumatic stress and worries about work and financial situation.
Their results suggested understanding the long-term consequences of Covid 19 disease as a multi-system disease that affects large parts of patients. “These long-term effects occur to an extent that could overwhelm the existing capacities of the health system,” write the researchers, “especially in countries with low and middle incomes.”
