The arrival in 2026 of the Audi Q8 e-tron will coincide with another milestone for the manufacturer with the rings: the end of the combustion engine, with the last units leaving factories in the same year.

The Sueddeutsche Zeitung quotes Audi boss Markus Duesmann as having confirmed the matter to union representatives and internal leaders. Audi should at the same time stop hybrids, since gasoline units would no longer be produced. And that would put at the same time an end to the V10, in particular used by Lamborghini, which implies that the descendant of the Huracan will be 100% electric.

This also means that the rest of the range, and in particular the compacts (A3, Q3 …) will then be electric.

Audi would be the first of the three top-of-the-range German manufacturers to completely abandon the combustion engine, since Mercedes and especially BMW have already confirmed that everything electric would present strong constraints on the supply of certain metals, and that the combustion engine has still years of interest before the total switch to electric.
