Operators responsible for scanning the QR Codes of participants in events affected by the health pass will have access to very limited information in an application called TousAntiCovid Verif.
From June 9, access to certain major events (stadiums, fairs or exhibitions, among others) will be subject to a health pass. In both paper and digital format, this document will display a QR Code which will be scanned by the organizers at the entrance using an application called TousAntiCovid Verif. Now available, the latter makes it possible to simulate a sanitary pass control. She can thus scan the QR Code of a test or vaccination certificate, on paper or on the TousAntiCovid application.
Name, first name, date of birth
As announced by the government, the TousAntiCovid Verif application – only intended for professionals affected by the health pass – does not provide access to vaccination data. A green (valid) or red (invalid) indication is displayed, along with the surname, first name (s) and date of birth of the person being checked.
With this tool, the operator cannot therefore find out about the visitor’s vaccination status. If it remains technically possible, a screenshot is in principle prohibited during an inspection.
To protect this information, however, care must be taken to press the QR Code displayed in the application in order to conceal the information (particularly related to the vaccine) which is entered under the latter in the “Notebook” section. The latter will then appear alone, in full screen, on a white background.
In its opinion issued in early May, the CNIL also asked the government to review its copy for paper format, which, when it takes the form of a vaccination certificate, in fact reveals the vaccination status of visitors.
For now, the Health Insurance (which issues vaccination certificates or authenticated test results) has not specified the evolution of the format of paper documents in order to comply with these requirements.
If the TousAntiCovid Verif application is technically available to everyone, its use is legally regulated. It can therefore only be used to check the participants of the events concerned by the use of the health pass. For example, a restaurant owner or a sports hall manager is prohibited from using it to control access to his establishment.
