The branch of the chain called 4-Star in a shopping center near the south-east English city of Dartford offers books, kitchen utensils, technical devices and toys, the group announced on Wednesday. In its home market of the USA, Amazon has been operating 4-star stores since 2018. With this step, the internet giant is further expanding its stationary business in addition to its online presence.
Back in March, Amazon opened a supermarket without a cash register in London for the first time in Europe, in which cameras and sensors such as scales on the shelves register who is taking which goods. The price is automatically debited via the app after leaving the shop. There are now several of these stores, called Amazon Fresh, in the British capital. Other retail chains such as Aldi are also testing similar concepts in Great Britain.

As the company announced, a nearly 10,000 square meter logistics site in Neubrandenburg started work on Wednesday. According to earlier information, 180 employees will work there. In addition, Amazon is building a large distribution center on Autobahn 20 in Dummerstorf near Rostock. This should open in mid-2022 and give up to 1,000 employees work. A warehouse is also to be built in Schwerin in the coming year, where more than 100 jobs are expected. The group plans to open eight logistics locations nationwide with around 3,000 new jobs by mid-2022. Along with Helmstedt (Lower Saxony) and Hof / Gattendorf (Bavaria), Dummerstorf is one of the larger distribution centers.
In Neubrandenburg, parcels are to arrive from logistics and sorting centers, which are picked up there by delivery partners and delivered to customers. The location is close to the A20, which leads to the Baltic Sea coast.
In NASDAQ trading, Amazon securities are at times 0.74 percent higher at $ 3,244.95.
