Faced with the increase in the price of gas and electricity, the government announced on Wednesday the payment of an energy check of 100 euros to nearly six million low-income households.
Concretely, the latter will be sent to some 5.8 million households who have already received an energy check. This additional boost will be valid for one year.
What are the eligibility conditions for the energy check?
The energy voucher was set up for the most vulnerable people, encountering difficulties in paying their heating bills in particular.
It is automatically allocated to eligible persons selected by the tax administration. This check is linked to tax income which must be less than 10,800 euros per unit of consumption.
In addition, the beneficiary’s housing must be subject to housing tax even if it is exempt from it. To find out if you are eligible, an eligibility simulator is available on the website of the Ministry of Ecological Transition.
What is its amount?
Depending on the resources, the amount of the energy check can vary between 48 and 277 euros. To these amounts are therefore added the 100 euros announced.
What are the steps to take?
No steps need to be taken for eligible households who will receive it by mail during the month of December, regardless of the heating method (electricity, fuel oil, gas). It comes in a form similar to a voucher.
How to use your energy voucher?
The energy check allows you to pay your bills related to energy costs with your supplier. It can also be used to finance small work and can be converted into a work check.
As the Ministry of Ecological Transition indicates on its site, people who would like to convert their energy check into a work check contact the user support of the device either by e-mail or by phone at 0805.204.805.
Until when can I use it?
The expiry date is written on the back of the check. Generally, it corresponds to March 31 of the year following its distribution.
